Users Can Now Access Twitter Without Internet!

Bangalore: How amazing would it be, if we could connect with the rest of the world without any internet connection? It would be awesome, wouldn’t it? And that’s the niche Twitter is trying explore. One of the most popular social networking sites of the world, Twitter, would be tying up with a Singapore-based startup, U2opia Mobile letting end users access the service without being connected to the internet, reports hindustantimes.

This move by Twitter is to tap opportunities in the emerging markets specially targeting users with entry-level phones. “Eight out of 10 people in emerging markets are still not accessing data on their phone,” says Sumesh Menon, Chief Executive and Co-founder, U2opia.  According to the authorities, users will have to dial a simple code to get updates on the most trending topics and to obtain ‘localized’ news feeds.

U2opia uses a telecom protocol named Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) which does not allow end users view pictures, videos, graphics or audios. USSD, which is apparently present in over 30 countries in seven different languages, localizes the news feeds aptly to the location of the users giving relevant updates.
