Twitter To Mark It's Footprint In E-Commerce
Bangalore: While Facebook introduced trending feature which was inspired by Twitter, the latter has made a foray into e-commerce much like its rival. It can be remembered that Facebook has entered into online sales but made a retreat, thanks to poor response from its users.
A screenshot of the proposed new service was posted by Re/Code. The image was supposedly found on an e-tailing site Fancy.com which is rumored to be the micro-blogging site's partner for its online sales ambition. However, the screenshot is no longer available to be viewed as reported by NDTV. It had certain tweets that showed "Twitter Commerce". Upon expanding, it showed up a "Buy with Fancy" button. Upon clicking, it would lead us to a page where shipping address and payment details would have to be entered to complete the purchase. All this while, Twitter would be still hosting us.
As always, the commission details of the products sold on Twitter was not disclosed. Also, whether Fancy.com was the only site that was partnered is left to speculation. The analysts are apprehensive about this venture and think that usage, revenue and hence the profit generated won't be sufficient to sustain it. Twitter had its Wall Street debut last November gaining 73 percent in the first day of trading.
