In a recent event celebrating the 10th anniversary of Intel’s Research and Development arm hosted by Justine Rattner, CTO and VP of Intel Labs, the company enlisted its top 10 technological innovations which are inducted into Intel’s “Hall of Fame.”

#1 Thunderbolt

The first item on Intel’s Hall of Fame list is Thunderbolt, a technology that delivers 10 GBPS data transfers using a single cable to connect devices. It was codenamed as “Light Peak.”

Thunderbolt is an interface for connecting peripheral devices to a computer via an expansion bus. Developed by Intel, it was brought to market commercially on Apple’s MacBook Pro lineup on February 24 last year.

The Thunderbolt trademark was first registered by Apple. But full rights belonged to Intel, which eventually led to the transfer of the registration to Intel from Apple.
