The World's Largest Pirate Site Celebrates 10th Birthday


Bangalore: World’s largest file sharing site, The Pirate Bay is celebrating its 10th anniversary of inception. The site was founded in the year 2003 by a group of hackers and activists, and from being a small Swedish BitTorrent, it has now grown to be a globally recognized online piracy site, reports Daily Dot.   

The website was first launched in Mexico and within few months the site expanded to Sweden. The Pirate Bay was first hosted on a Pentium3 laptop with 256MB RAM, and with just one machine the site was said to be functioning successfully. With growing popularity of The Pirate Bay there was also requirement for more systems. In the year 2004 around 80percent of their users came from different countries. This led them to redesign their page with contents in different languages.

According to the admin, "But because we thought that we'd eventually be too old for this shit. But hey, running this ship makes us feel young."
