Teens Leaving Facebook To Embrace Whatsapp

Bangalore: The teen demography that was once active on Facebook has developed an increasing likeness towards mobile messaging apps such as Whatsapp and Wechat, reports ‘The Guardian’.

There were earlier reports that the young who were leaving Facebook were spending their time on Youtube, but the latest once suggest a new phenomenon, teens drifting towards messaging apps. Whatsapp has more than 350 monthly active users word wide, says Guardian quoting data from Mobile Marketing Magazine.

The encroachment of the older ones into Facebook has made it ‘not cool anymore’ and is mentioned as the major reason for the switch. Another main reason is the privacy that the messaging apps offer. Instead of passively increasing the number on the friends list on Facebook, users prefer to be connected with people whom they know in real life. The real time chatting apps are more secure as one needs the mobile number to be connected.
