Rumors Heat Up On Apple Wristwatch
Bangalore: Apple, the iPhone maker, is all-set to release an iPhone-like Wristwatch in 2013, as per the reports.
According to Bloomberg, Apple could introduce a Smartwatch this year. The Cupertino tech company has dedicated about 100 product designers to the project. Rumors are heating up from the past few months about the iWatch that it would be able to make calls, , check map coordinates, count steps using a pedometer and monitor health-related data using sensors.
As per the sources, Apple has a team of 100 product designers working on “a wristwatch-like device” which shares features with the iPhone and iPad and the device may also run on iOS, Apple’s mobile operating system. Furthermore, the company has filed 79 patents containing the word “wrist”. One of those patents says the watch may also have a flexible screen and will be powered using kinetic energy.
Wearable technology is a growing trend and Apple would be entering the wristwatch market because gross margins on watches are about 60%. Apart from the iPhone maker, the kickstarter-funded Smartwatch Pebble sold around 85,000 watches which hit the records through the crowdfunding site. In addition, Google works on augmented-reality glasses that use voice-recognition to receive commands and display information.
