Rejoice Microsoft! Lumia Sales Hit Record High

Bangalore:  Microsoft is silently making its presence visible in the Smartphone arena, as the sales of its biggest partner, Nokia hits an all time high. The Finnish manufacturer sold 7.4 million Lumia Smartphones in the second quarter, marking the best ever sales for Windows Phone devices.

Even though the sales numbers were high, Nokia made a net loss of €238 million; however down from the previous year’s lose of €1.53 billion. Out of the total 7.4 million Smart devices sold by Nokia, all were Windows Phones under the Lumia series. Comparatively, Lumias covered only 4 million last year when Nokia sold 10.2 million smart devices. The currently abandoned Symbian OS added up the remaining 6.2 million.

Nokia, once at the verge of bankruptcy is presently showing positive response as its operating loss on devices and services also shrunk with a huge margin. As Nokia abandoned its Symbian OS and expects phone sales to further pick up in the third quarter, Microsoft too can join the party as its Windows Phone 8 will get more acceptance amidst the omnipresent Androids and iPhones.

Meanwhile rumors are ripe on Nokia introducing Lumia range of Tablets running Windows RT. If the company moves forward with this plan, Windows devotees will soon get more handy devices to play around with.
