Opera Strikes Deal With Indian Mobile Phone Makers

Bangalore: Norway’s Opera Software has signed up with seven Indian mobile phone makers to pre-install its Mobile web browser Opera mini, in their upcoming devices. While Karbonn, Lava, Celkon and Intex will pre-install Opera mini’s web browser on all their Android devices, Fly, Zen and HCL ME tablets will have the software on select Android devices.

According to Opera Software’s Vice President (South Asia), the software is well suited for Indian mobile networks because of its data compression feature and India is one of the fastest growing countries for adoption of mobile Internet.

The country has largest number of Opera mini users in the world, states a report by Opera’s ‘State of the Android Mobile Web’. With the availability of affordable Smartphones, the number of Indians using mobile devices for browsing  is on the rise.

The compression technology of Opera reduces data transfers to as little as 10 percent, as it renders webpages on Opera’s servers before they are displayed on mobile devices. Smart Page, Speed Dial, tabbed browsing, password manager, download manager and Opera Link are some features that come along with Opera Mini.

Opera which is headquartered in Oslo has offices in 13 other locations around the world and operations in four subsidiary companies.
