Bangalore: The economic capital of India, Mumbai has top most internet penetration in the country leaving the IT hub Bangalore far behind.

Mumbai with 12 million internet users has emerged as top city with most internet penetration in the country followed by Delhi with 8.1 million and Hyderabad with 4.7 million internet users. Chennai is placed at fourth spot with 4.5 million and Kolkata with 4.4 million internet users at fifth. Bangalore, with 3.8 million users is sixth in internet user penetration, according to a study by Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), reports Economic Times.

Among the top 4 metros, which noticed 37 percent internet penetration, Hyderabad leads the charge with a penetration of 37 percent penetration. When it came to the Small Metro Cities, Coimbatore with 40 percent penetration was leading the charts.

Kolkota has registered highest year-over-year (y-o-y) growth with 47 percent increase in number of internet users compared to previous year. It is followed by Mumbai with 45 percent and Bangalore with 43 percent. Delhi registered 35 percent and Ahmedabad a 26 percent of y-o-y growth, where the later registered the lowest growth rate among the top eight cities.
