Microsoft To Shed The Coat Of "Software Company"


Bangalore: Software Giant Microsoft is reportedly transforming itself into devices and services oriented company, and is in the middle of its transition. The company has announced it will focus more on creating devices like tablet computers in future, reports Times Of India.

Kevin Turner, Microsoft chief operating officer, who is in charge of Microsoft's worldwide sales, marketing, and services,  said, that the company is set to invest $10.1 billion in R&D for the 5 mega technology trends which includes cloud, social media, mobility, big data and touch. Turner also added, cloud is already getting governments attention, and considering giving a helping hand with regards to security, privacy and regulatory compliance and cross boarder data.

Turner in a statement said, "We cannot look at any of these spaces independently as they are inter-related. Globally some 90% of enterprises are willing to embrace cloud technologies, as it is critical for them to maintain long-term competitiveness," he also added “We have already floated a comprehensive strategy for cloud. We will stay committed on the cloud space."

“Even social media is gaining attention, nearly 85 percent of Fortune Five Hundred firms have engaged in social solutions. Smartphones has already sold over a billion sighting a potential in mobile devices. By 2017 India will be third largest Smartphone market,” said Turner.
