Bangalore: The Smartphone giants, Apple and Samsung are apparently being outclassed by heavy competition from Indian brands.

The two Indian mobile phone companies Micromax and Karbonn, for their innovative features, affordability and latest technology, were placed on top.

The clever and simple strategy used by Micromax and Karbonn by low pricing of their products have shaken iPhone and Samsung Phone markets. The intensive R&D and innovative marketing strategies of the Indian companies have let them understand the handset market very well.

In a country which is second most populous in the world with 1.27 billion people, and where people live on $2 a day or less, there is a very high demand for low priced phones. According to Framingham, Massachusetts-based researcher IDC, India will become the third-largest smartphone market by 2017.

The Multi-featured low priced smart phones by Micromax and Karbonn have realized the dreams of many; In addition, to lure customers, Karbonn also subsidizes monthly data packages.

According to IDC, Micromax is ranked second by shipments and Karbonn is placed fifth. When it comes to shipments Micromax has increased to 633,000 Smartphones from 9,990 in the last quarter, whereas, Karbonn had a growth of 304,000 from nearly zero.

Now, as the two Indian mobile-phone companies are doing so well, they are also considering going public.

According to Gartner, almost 75% of the mobile phones used by Indians cost less than 2,500. The percentage will shrink as users move from feature phones to Smartphones over the next seven years, which is where Micromax and Karbonn will pick up market share.
