KitKat To End Age-old Android Fragmentation Problem

Bangalore: Finally Android 4.4 was revealed in its full glory on Google’s latest Smartphone Nexus 5, putting rumor mills to rest. Among the raft of new features added to the mobile platform, be it cloud printing or a smarter Google Now integration, KitKat's most notable promise is to fix the age-old Android fragmentation problem, reports CNet.

Google’s Android chief Sundar Pichai says that the new version of the Android will run across all the Smartphones and the goal is to bring Android to the next billion people. He added that the Android 4.4 also will deliver a "beautiful immersive experience" and an expansion of Google's services to all corners of a device.

The statement that the new Android will run across all the Smartphones, holds the answer for the critics and the fans alike, who believed that the Android pie was long been cut into many pieces.

The major problem with the fragmentation is that the only premium devices like Nexus phones and Samsung Galaxy S4 got the updates of new Android versions while the entry level phones got stuck at the version they got shipped. However Pichai says that emerging markets that rely on entry level Smartphones have three times the Android growth of developed markets that are prompting the change.
