Innoz Technologies Develops SMS-Based Operating System

Kochi: Aiming to expand its market visibility, Bangalore-based Innoz Technologies, a fast track start up in the area of Mobile and Wireless, has developed an innovative Operating System 'Innoz OS' for mobile phones that will give access to internet through SMS.

The new software, which has been patented by Innoz, is presently being tested at the company's Bangalore unit and is likely to be launched by January next year, Abhinav Sree, Co- founder & COO of the company, told PTI here. 'We are not making Smart phones. But we are making dumb phones, 'smart', he said adding it took 6 months to develop the software.

Middle East, Africa, tier 2 towns and villages in India would be targeted, he said. According to Abhinav, the company was in talks with mobile phone manufacturers, including Nokia and Micromax, to pre-install 'Innoz OS' in basic model phones. The OS will communicate with the internet through sms, he said.

Communication between mobile phone and cloud will happen through SMS. So even an ordinary phone with no GPRS, could have access to internet, he said.

Low end phone users can also check their mail; connect to Facebook and various social media through the system. Deepak Raveendran, Co-founder and CEO of the company, who was in Kochi recently to participate in the TiECon conference, said the aim of the new platform was to develop SMS based application which would give access to internet through SMS.

Out of the 1.2 billion people in India, 950 million people are mobile phone users, which ensures that the potential market for SMS based apps was much higher than internet which was used only by 10 per cent of the population, he said.
