Indian Brothers Rival Google Street View With Wonobo

Bangalore: While Google is struggling to convince Indian authorities for mapping major Indian cities for their Street View service, on October 15, 2013 a Mumbai-based startup has launched a similar service that could rival Google’s service and perhaps more, as it has already mapped top 54 Indian cities. The company was founded by two brothers, Sajid and Sol Malik in 1995; and is called Genesys International, reports Times Of India.

The website launched on Tuesday, wonobo.com, have captured numerous images of almost every street in the major cities across India. The images are stitched together to create 360-degree panoramic view of the streets, almost exactly the way Google has done in many other parts of the world.

When asked on why Google couldn’t do but Wonobo could, Sajid Malik told that one advantage Genesys had was, they had been working with the government for many years for their mapping services. "For street view, the government, including the Defence Ministry and the Survey of India, threw a lot of regulations at us. We painstakingly fulfilled their requirements, including not taking pictures in sensitive areas," he said.
