India To Get A 30 Percent Faster Google Soon

Bangalore: There’s good news to Indian netizens, Google websites-- Gmail, Google+, YouTube, Google Hangout, Google Search and more are to get 30 percent faster in India, thanks to search giant’s initiative to open data centers in Asia that will be operational this year, reports TOI.

Google started working on these data centers which are located at Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong in 2011. The Singapore data center is expected to get functional early this year and Taiwan’s by second half, however internet biggie has not yet given a clear timeframe for completing the Hong Kong facility. As per the reports Google is spending about $300 million on these data centers.

"Internet connectivity speed in India is not very high. These data centres will be crucial to this market due to its proximity," said Lalitesh Katragadda, country head, India Products at Google. "More people from India are coming online every day and this is an important market as Google looks to bring the next one billion online," he added. "We plan to invest disproportionately in India in the coming months and years."

The proximity of these data centers to India will result in Google services getting 30 percent faster according to Raj Gopal AS, MD at Bangalore-based NxtGen Datacenter & Cloud Services.
