Google's Chinese Counterpart Prepares Google Glass Competitor

Bangalore: China’s search king Baidu, which handles three quarter of the country’s internet users has reportedly developed a prototype of Google Glass. This wearable device known to be Baidu Eye, is similar to Google’s futuristic glasses wherein users are allowed to make phone calls, search the web and even capture and send photos.

According to PC Mag, Baidu’s director Kaiser Kuo said, “We are doing some internal testing on it now on a small scale and evaluating where this goes from here.”

As of now, the search engine is not prioritizing the Eye. It is just being checked for the market potential that it will expect.

According to Chinese news outlet, Sina.com, Baidu is working on the battery life of the Eye, with Qualcomm which is said to be 12 hours.

Though the specs were not known, the device is said to run on an open platform allowing developers to design applications. Baidu also plans to outsource the manufacturing of the glasses.
