Google Introduced Pixel and Pixel XL: Farewell to Nexus


BENGALURU: After the renowned Nexus series from Google, the tech giant introduced Pixel and Pixel XL smart phones, completely designed and developed by the company. The first phone ever made inside out by Google raising a strong competition for the Apple iPhone 7 segments, exclusively carries a Google branding.

The Pixel series are available in 5 and 5.5 inch display segments, with two color variants- Quite Black or Very Silver. Taking a look at the display specifications, the 5 inch display is FHD AMOLED at 441ppi, where as the 5.5 inch is QHD AMOLED at 534ppi; both protected by a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass-4. Top of the phone houses the 8MP IMX179 front shooter with 1.4µm, f/2.4 Aperture and fixed focus.

Deep inside, the devices are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 32 or 128 GB internal storage, running on the latest Android Nougat 7.1 operating system. 

The new Pixel series comes in a premium Metal unibody, and Glass supervisor with Gorilla Glass 4 coating in the exterior and smooth-curved edges, offering better grip and usability.  The back side of the phone houses a 12.3MP IMX378 autofocus camera with 1.55μm PDAF + LDAF and f/2.0 Aperture, and the ultrafast fingerprint sensor as well. The Pixel series comes fitted with a 2,770 mAh battery in 5 inch segment and 3,450 mAh batteries in the 5.5 inch segment with fast charging technology. The ports include USB Type-C, USB 3.0, 3.5mm headset jack and a Single SIM slot.

The device holds the position for the first phone with the Google Assistant built in. As part of the company’s strategies to win the market, Google offers unlimited storage for all the users’ photos and videos as well.
