Fake Likes- A Lucrative Business
Bangalore: Selling social media clicks has become a lucrative business if we go by the numbers. Italian security researchers and bloggers Andrea Stroppa and Carla De Micheli estimated that the sales of fake followers on Twitter in 2013 is estimated to be from $40 million to $360 million to date, and fake Facebook activities bring in $200 million a year, reports Associated Press.
“The businesses buy the Facebook likes because they’re afraid that when people go to their Facebook page and they only see 12 or 15 likes, they’re going to lose potential customers,” said the president and CEO of WeSellLikes.com. Celebrities, businesses and even the U.S. State Department have bought bogus Facebook likes, Twitter followers or YouTube viewers from offshore “click farms,” where workers tap the thumbs up button to increase the number of likes.
Buy Plus Followers sell 250 Google+ shares for $12.95. Instagram Engine sells 1,000 followers for $12. Authentic Hits sells 1,000 Sound Cloud plays for $9.
