Facebook Unveils 'Home' Android OS; Not A Facebook Phone

Bangalore: The social networking giant, Facebook unveiled “Home” software to set Facebook in the forefront on Android users’ Smartphones, which may divert the users from Google services to the fast-growing mobile sector.

With its new ‘Home’ software, the social network wants to bring the Facebook content to the home screen, rather than using it to check apps. During its launch, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO said that it modifies the homescreen and the lockscreen. He said, "You'll have content loaded in the background and displayed automatically on both.”

It allows either storing all the notifications or swiping them away. The display of ‘Home’ showed a series of pictures on the home screen of the phone along with status updates and messages integrated into the interface. The software will be available from April 12th in the Google Play Store. He also addressed on the rumors saying, "Today we're finally going to talk about that Facebook phone."

Facebook Phone, claimed to be known as HTC First will be the first Android phone to be preloaded with Facebook home and is priced at $99.9. The phone will be available in various shades like red, blue, white and black.

Besides, Zuckerberg also introduced ‘Chatheads’, a new messaging feature. He said, "The heads pop up on the upper right, and you can tap on them, move them around, and stack them together.” Chatheads work with both Facebook messages and SMS.
