Confirmed: Apple Working On A Cheap iPhone

Bangalore: Apple is working on a less expensive iPhone that may debut later this year. A report citing “People briefed on the matter” by WSJ has aroused curiosity in and out about the model.

As stated in the report, Apple has been exploring the lower end of its flagship model for the past few years and the plan is towards brim of launching the less expensive version of the device later this year. The cheaper model would resemble the standard iPhone with a less expensive body made of polycarbonate plastic in the place of the aluminium sheath of iPhone 5, whilst the other parts remain the same.

Gene Munster, an analyst with investment bank Piper Jaffray stated that a less expensive phone won’t affect the Apple’s overall profit margin if it attracts buyers who haven’t bought iPhones earlier.

The reports also stated that the lower end iPhone would be available for the carriers at about half the price of the mainstream iPhones.

Further, Digitimes had reported on Tuesday that Apple’s new phone will target China and other emerging markets. Perhaps the model will be launched in the second half of 2013.

The low-cost iPhone from Apple has incited changes in the technology sphere as it’s more affordable and is not as equipped as iPhone’s lower cost rivals powered by Google’s Android, which indeed is grabbing the markets a lot faster than Apple.

Earlier in 2011, Bloomberg reported that Apple was developing a lower-end iPhone that possibly will widen the iPhone’s appearance and keep it stable without losing with the Android models.
