Apple Updates Its Macbook Air Notebooks; Cuts Prices By 2000

BANGALORE: Without much of a wave or a huge event Apple has silently updated its MacBook Air notebooks that sport the latest Intel processors based on the Haswell architecture. The Cupertino giant has also reduced the price of all models of MacBook Air by 2,000 in India and $100 in U.S., as reported by Anupam Saxena, TOI Tech.

The refreshed models which went through some over halls are the 11-inch and 13-inch base models of the MacBook Air which now feature a 1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with a Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz and are priced at 65,900 ($899 in U.S.) and 72,900 ($999 in U.S.), respectively.

The 256GB variants of MacBook Air have also received a price cut of 2,000 in India, and $100 price cut in U.S. The 11-inch 256GB variant of the MacBook will now costs 79,900, while the 13-inch 256GB variant costs 86,900 for consumers.

Other than some improvements in processing power, tech giant Apple has not made any changes to the MacBook Air products. All models under its brand name feature 4GB RAM, 720p FaceTime HD camera, and come with dual-microphones including the faster 802.11ac Wi-Fi or Gigabit Wi-Fi. The MacBook Air models feature two USB 3.0 ports and 1 Thunderbolt port. The 13-inch MacBook Air models also sport a SDXC card slot.

Apple had first unveiled the Haswell powered MacBook Air models in June 2013 at its WWDC event. The major highlight of these models was the battery life, with the 11-inch models claiming to deliver up to 9 hours backup, and the 13-inch MacBook Airs claiming to offer 12 hours of battery life.
