Apple Sees Abrupt iPhone Sales In India

Bangalore: Apple India has experienced a tremendous surge in its iPhone monthly sales. The company has managed to push up its sales figures to a whopping 400percent. Its marketing strategy, such as EMI’s and attractive cash back schemes has worked out wonders to the company, reports ET.

Before Apple introduced the EMI scheme, the average monthly sales for iPhone was around 70,000-80,000. Now, the iPhone sales have zoomed up, and as per research analyst, Sunil Tirumalai, "From our channel checks we believe that iPhone sales are nearing 400,000 units per month in India - that is nearly 3 percent share of handset sales for a single top-end product in a market that has long been dominated by low-end feature phones.” He also added, "The 4-9percent implicit discount coupled with the option of easy EMIs spread over 6-12 months became popular. Within a few months, our discussions with handset retailers indicated that iPhone sales went up 3-4x, forcing companies to respond."

Apart from offers on EMI's and buy back schemes, Apple introduced lucrative offers to the card holders by giving discounts of upto 6000 for people who buy iPhone 4, iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, using an American Express. It also allowed students to avail discounts up to 7,777, on the purchase of iPhone 4, provided they exchange their old Smartphones for this purpose.

Apple has created a strong foothold for iPhone as a product in India; it has changed the perception, from being a high-end product to an affordable one. Currently, the company holds second position in the Indian market with a share percentage of 15.6, and Samsung leading the market with 38.8percent.
