Apple CEO Tim Cook Envisions Augmented Reality As the Next Big Thing
BENGALURU: In a recent interview at the Utah Tech Tour, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook states that Augmented Reality (AR) will be a major turnaround in the upcoming years, effectively visualizing future possibilities of the new technology. He further states that, just like smartphones, AR will be widely used by people across the globe; making it a part of their day-to-day life.
“Nobody in here, few people in here, think it’s acceptable to be tethered to a computer walking in here and sitting down, few people are going to view that it’s acceptable to be enclosed in something, because we’re all social people at heart,” comments Cook, as reported by the MacWorld. Pinpointing the significance of Virtual Reality (VR), Cook also states that he is excited about the VR technology from an education standpoint as it can transmogrify the entire education system. But, on the other side, Cook says that he can’t imagine the scenario of people involving in a completely enclosed VR experience.
The popularity of Pokemon Go has indeed registered an initial success of the AR platform. Emerging with a similar concept, Microsoft has also introduced mixed reality with their ‘HoloLens’. The company claims that it effectively combines the AR and VR technologies to stage a unique view for users.
Considering the current scenario, Apple happens to be the only firm that hasn’t developed or introduced any products in the AR and VR arena. But, summing up Cook’s recent comments along with Apple’s move in acquiring companies such as FlyBy Media, Emotient and Faceshift, it surely indicates the possibility of a new product to be introduced by the company. Furthermore, we can foresee the integration of AR with iPhones.
