Bangalore: Google Chrome, the freeware web browser developed by Google has surpassed more than 310 million users in just four years, leaving behind its peers who are catching breath trying to keep up with it. According to the latest StatCounter report, Chrome has 34 percent of worldwide usage share of web browsers as of September 2012, making it the most widely used web browser.

Users unanimously love this browser for its performance standing up to what it says “Chrome is a fast, simple, and secure web browser, built for the modern web.”

Here are some of the features which stands out to make your browsing experience safe and special in Chrome:

Safe Browsing: Feel secure

The Safe Browsing technology enabled in chrome makes you feel safe and secure, and add freedom to explore web the way you never before experienced. A warning message will pop up if you try to visit a site suspected of having malware or phishing.

Sandboxing: When out of the box is dangerous!

Sandboxing is a feature that limits the malicious code from harming your computer, by quarantining it inside a walled “sand box”. It also prevents what happens in one tab affecting another tab. It adds an additional layer of protection against malicious web pages that try to add malicious program on your machine to monitor your web activities or steal private information from your system. You can go out of box, expanding your limits on browsing, and leave other things to Sandboxing.

While other browsers can keep you on uneasy spot to track latest updates, Chrome checks for updates regularly with its auto-update feature-- updates and refreshes itself. It eases user efforts and ensures latest security on browser along with fixing bad patches and adding new features to the browser.

Plug-ins and extensions

Plug-ins and extensions separate the programs that run in parallel with your browser like videos and games. Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Java and Shock Wave are popular plug-ins and most often have critical security vulnerabilities. Chrome ensures that latest security patches in popular plug-ins gets updated along with Chrome updates, making such vulnerabilities more difficult to get exploited. In addition to it Chrome blocks attempts to load other plug-ins, like Java, if the version has known security vulnerabilities.
