Position: Senior Vice President and Google Fellow

Amit Singhal is senior vice president and software engineer at Google, a Google Fellow, and the head of Google's core ranking team.

In 2000, he was persuaded by his friend Krishna Bharat, a research scientist at the company to join Google. Amit runs Google's core search quality department. He and his team are responsible for the Google search algorithms. According to New York Times, Singhal is the master of what Google calls its “ranking algorithm” — the formulas that decide which Web pages best answer each user’s question.

Amit Singhal was born in Uttar Pradesh, India. He has a BS degree in Computer Science from IIT Roorkee, in India, a MS, Computer Science degree from University of Minnesota and a PhD in Computer Science from Cornell University.
