#9: Vinod Khosla, Khosla Ventures, Founder: Born in Delhi, India at an army household, Khosla dreamt high. He received his B.Tech degree in Electrical engineering from the IIT Delhi, and later went on to receive his masters from Carneigie Mellon University and graduated from Stanford Graduate School of Business with an MBA. After his graduation he was among the three founders of Daisy Systems, which was the first significant computer-aided design system for electrical engineers. The company went on to achieve significant success. Still Vinod was not satisfied and he started the standards-based Sun Microsystems in 1982 to build workstations for software developers. In later years he joined Kleiner Perkins, where he was and still is a general partner of KPCB funds through KP X.
In 2004, funded entirely by family funds, he formed Khosla Ventures. The Khosla Ventures stay focused on assisting great entrepreneurs who are determined to build companies with lasting significance.
#10: Ram Shriram, Sherpalo, Founder: Born in Chennai, India, Shriram has a Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola College, Chennai. As a technology industry insider for over 25 years he has worked in companies large and small across all functional areas and through fluctuating business cycles. Ram worked as an early executive at Netscape, which he joined in 1994. After Netscape, Ram served as president at Junglee, an online comparison shopper, which was acquired by Amazon in August 1998. Ram Shriram started Sherpalo in January, 2000, with the goal of applying his wealth of operating and company building experience to promising early stage ventures. Ram Shriram is a founding board member of Google Incorporation and 247-Inc.com. He also serves on the boards of PaperlessPost.com, Zazzle.com and StumbleUpon.com. In addition, he is also on the board of trustees of Stanford University.
