10 Modern Engineering Marvels In The World
#3 The Large Hadron Collider
The Large Hadron Collider or LHC is a colossal scientific instrument near Geneva and is one of the greatest marvels of modern technology. It spans between Switzerland and France and is about 100 meters underground. It revolutionizes the understading from the pocket-sized knowledge of world within atoms.
It was developed to boost the study of smallest known particles by a gigantic tool that accelerates them. Two beams of subatomic particles called “Hadrons” either protons or lead ions, travel in opposite directions inside the circular accelerator, gaining energy with every lap. The whole story is still not yet revealed but it is said to study about particle physics and fundamental laws of nature.
#2 Palm Islands
Palm Islands, artificial archipelago islands located in Dubai is another great example of the Modern engineering success. It is known to be world’s biggest artificial islands and has around 1500 villas in it. The islands are the Palm Jumeriah, the Palm Jebel Ali and the Palm Deira.
Each settlement will be in the shape of a palm tree, topped with a crescent and includes a large number of residential, leisure and entertainment centers. It extends up to 520kms of beaches and includes 100 luxury hotels, exclusive residential beach-side villas and apartments, marinas, water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities and health spas.
#1 Millau Viaduct
The Millau Viaduct, cable-stayed road-bridge is located in Southern France and connects the motorway from Paris to Barcelona, crossing the River Tarn which runs through a wide gap between two plateaus. It is the tallest bridge in the world as well as the 12th highest bridge deck in the world.
It was designed in collaboration with engineers and is designed with delicate, transparent and uses minimum material which made it cost-effective while construction. It is higher than the Eiffel Tower and each section spans 350 meters and ranges in height from 75 meters to 235 meter.
