#10 QR Codes

Year it was supposed to blow: 1999

QR or Quick Response Codes encrypt some information (numeric, alphanumeric, byte/binary, kanji) in the form of black modules (square dots) arranged in a square pattern on white back ground. It is popular type of matrix barcode.

QR codes got feverish rage in late 1990 and early 2000, and were fun to use an encrypted piece and see what it can reveal. The companies and some ads yet use the QR images, asking customers to scan the codes, to log on to some site for some information. Toyota started this code system to track its vehicles, but soon the coding system turned in to a marketing gimmick which nearly no one used. You can not be sure if a QR code you come across is from genuine source or from a hacker, so better be safe than worry.
