Zomato Installs Wheelchair Accessible Rest Points for Delivery Partners
Zomato, India's top food ordering and delivery platform, is initiating a project aimed at improving inclusivity and accessibility by making its rest points in metro cities wheelchair-friendly. This initiative primarily focuses on ensuring smooth mobility for Zomato's delivery partners who use wheelchairs. To kickstart this endeavor, the company has begun converting two shelter points, situated in Delhi and Bangalore, into barrier-free zones to cater to the needs of wheelchair-bound delivery partners.
Zomato is dedicated to fostering inclusivity across its operational framework and aims to contribute to a more accommodating infrastructure and built environment. Acknowledging the potential of individuals with disabilities, the company has proactively taken measures to establish a comprehensive and inclusive atmosphere. Presently, Zomato's fleet comprises 300 delivery partners with locomotor disabilities as part of its flagship initiative, ZEAL (Zomato’s Equitable Action for Livelihood).
Through the 'Shelter Project' launched earlier this year, these rest points are tailored to offer a more supportive gig environment for the last-mile delivery partners representing various companies. These wheelchair-accessible spaces feature well-ventilated surroundings equipped with comfortable seating, charging stations, restrooms, high-speed internet access, a helpdesk, first-aid support, complimentary Wi-Fi, and access to food choices. The intentional design of this project incorporates dedicated areas for delivery partners to recharge and unwind between deliveries, contributing to their physical and mental well-being.
Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Zomato's Chief Sustainability Officer, highlighted the company's commitment to establishing a safe and inclusive workspace. She remarked, "By ensuring wheelchair accessibility at these rest points, our focus is on empowering our diverse last-mile delivery partners". Kumar expressed appreciation for the collaboration with Tejasvi Surya and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, instrumental in refurbishing the shelter points in Bangalore and New Delhi, respectively. She emphasized that as Zomato continues to expand, the initiative will evolve to meet the varied needs of delivery partners.
