Automation expected to deliver major annual cost savings
Zepto has completed the rollout of its supply chain automation across India, marking one of its biggest operational upgrades to date. Aadit Palicha, CEO of Zepto, announced the milestone in a LinkedIn post, noting that the company now processes around 2.5 million FMCG units every day through its automated network.
Palicha shared a video showing the automated systems working inside a warehouse. He said the initiative has boosted outbound manpower productivity by over 45% compared to manual processes. The improvement is also expected to generate significant annual cost savings, running into hundreds of crores.
According to Palicha, Zepto’s engineering teams built proprietary software that powers and coordinates the automated assets across its warehouses. This system connects directly with Zepto’s core logistics infrastructure, allowing smoother inventory movement and faster order handling.
The automation push comes at a time when quick commerce companies are facing rising supply chain challenges. High demand for hyperlocal warehouses and limited availability of trained staff have impacted scaling plans across the sector. Earlier this year, Zepto’s 10 minute food delivery vertical, Zepto Café, scaled down operations due to sourcing constraints and staffing shortages.

Despite these pressures, Zepto has continued expanding into new categories. The company claims to operate one of India’s largest direct-to-farm networks, handling more than 2 million fruit and vegetable units daily. In August, it also stepped into the pharmacy delivery space, offering fast deliveries in major metros.
With automation now active across the country, Zepto expects stronger operational efficiency and lower costs key factors as competition in quick commerce intensifies.
