Women Hired by the Startups in the last 12 Months

The world is progressing towards gender equality and giving women the opportunities to come forward and fulfill their career potential. However, a major concern has come in the way of the startups and the women looking out for job opportunities.

A survey has revealed that a six-month maternity leave policy in the country is impacting women being hired by the startups. 49percent of the startups have hired fewer or no women in the last 12 months.

A third or 33percent said they did not hire women at all while 16percent said they had hired fewer women than in the previous year. The Maternity Amendment law has given the women a beneficial chance to take care of their newly born baby while the startups are facing the problem of extra financial burden on them.

The startups have demanded the Ministry of Labour and Employment to reduce maternity leave as the law benefits the women with paid leaves but the company that is bearing the cost of the candidates who are not working for the six months is bringing them loss.

Women who are newly married or have been married for 3-4 years are not hired by the startups for a change they are asking the leave to be reduced to three months.
