Women- Headship: A Barrier in Bagging Funds from Investors

Bangalore: Women entrepreneurs find it difficult to fetch capital for the business.  Any business with a woman as the head undergoes a hard time finding appropriate funding required for the expansion of business. Men, on the other hand find it less cumbersome to manage business funds and transactions.

A new survey at the University of Utah reveals the biased attitude towards women entrepreneurs who are less likely to be considered while fetching funds for the businesses. Even after the constant struggle of decades and the sound grounding that many women have established owing to their constant hard work, they are still considered to be the weaker sex- less competent and fragile. As quoted in the Huffington post, women entrepreneurs and leaders find it difficult to raise money than their male counterparts.

As a result of such biased attitude, there is a decline in the number of women who held top management position. According to a survey done by iDiva, only 10% of Indian women occupy senior managerial posts, that is to say that women are still struggling to achieve opportunities at par with men. While there is an improvement in the condition of women when compared to the earlier time, but there is a long way to go in order to ensure equality in all spheres including business.

The underlying idea behind such behavior is the fact that women are still perceived less competent and aggressive than men to undertake any task of greater responsibility. At times, they are taken for granted as being delicate and the fairer sex and hence not suitable for such serious roles. There are many factors that engender a situation like this.
