- Chennai startup VyomIC to build India’s first private global satellite network for precise PNT services.
- Raised $1.6M pre-seed funding to develop anti-jamming LEO satellites.
- Targets centimeter level accuracy and indoor navigation for defence, telecom, finance, and autonomous tech.
Chennai based startup VyomIC, founded by IIT Madras alumni, is working on an ambitious project to build India’s first private global satellite constellation for high precision positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services. The company recently raised $1.6 million in pre-seed funding to push forward the development of its next-generation LEO satellite technology.
VyomIC’s founders, Lokesh Kabdal, Vibhor Jain, and Anurag Patil, bring experience from leading India’s student hyperloop project and drone swarm deployments. Vibhor Jain, co-founder, explained, “We’re not just creating an Indian alternative to GPS; we’re building a global system that focuses on autonomy, security, and unmatched precision”.
The startup’s LEO constellation promises centimetre level positioning and nanosecond level timing, features vital for defence, finance, telecommunications, and autonomous vehicle sectors. Unlike existing systems like GPS, VyomIC’s solution is designed to resist spoofing and jamming, offering stronger signals and better coverage, especially in urban or signal challenged areas.
VyomIC also aims to unlock indoor navigation, making it possible to track movements inside buildings and closed spaces something traditional satellite navigation struggles with.
With the pre-seed funding led by Speciale Invest and supported by BYT Capital and DeVC, VyomIC plans to build its PNT payload, conduct spaceborne demonstration missions, and grow its team.
Vishesh Rajaram, Managing Partner at Speciale Invest, said, “VyomIC is tackling a foundational technology that powers modern infrastructure, and their vision aligns perfectly with the future needs of autonomous systems and secure navigation”.
VyomIC’s vision is to launch a full fledged constellation serving global users with secure, precise navigation and timing, building a strong foundation for India’s space sovereignty and next gen technologies.
