VinFast's strategic foray into India resonates with India's increasing efforts towards electric mobility and indigenous manufacturing. Tamil Nadu was chosen due to a robust industrial ecosystem, trained manpower, and superior port connectivity. Tamil Nadu State Industries Minister T.R.B. Raaja said the project had the potential to initiate the emergence of a new EV industrial cluster in South Tamil Nadu, further augmenting India's goal as a world-scale manufacturing hub.

It has initiated talks with Vietnamese and local component makers to extend localization at its Indian plant. On the global front, VinFast has sold 97,399 EVs in 2024 and has a target of selling 200,000 units in 2025. Alone in H1 2025, it sold around 72,100 units, mostly in Vietnam.

Pre-bookings for the VF 6 and VF 7 opened in India on July 15 with a refundable deposit of Rs 21,000. VinFast also plans to establish 35 dealerships across 27 cities and recently launched its largest showroom in India  a 4,700 sq ft space in Chennai’s Teynampet  to showcase its upcoming models.
