Uber Names Pradeep Parameswaran Global Head of Mobility in Major Leadership Shift

·  Pradeep Parameswaran named Uber’s Global Head of Mobility.

·  Andrew Macdonald becomes Uber’s new COO.

·  Parameswaran led key Uber expansions and EV initiatives.

Uber, the US ride-hailing behemoth, has elevated Pradeep Parameswaran to Global Head of Mobility in a key leadership transition at the San Francisco-headquartered firm. Parameswaran, in his new job, will head Uber's biggest business segment, overseeing mobility activities across its biggest regions spanning Asia Pacific, EMEA, and North America.

Reporting to CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, Parameswaran is a part of Uber's executive leadership team. He replaces Andrew Macdonald, an uber veteran with a long tenure, who has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer. Macdonald's appointment reactivates the COO role after six years and is likely to accelerate Uber's strategic emphasis on automation and future-gen transportation solutions.

Speaking to employees, Khosrowshahi promised, "I have no intention of going anywhere in the near future apart from flying around the world in order to keep up with our growing footprint."

This leadership reorganization is in place as Uber makes its way through expansion in new markets with increasing competition and greater focus on autonomous mobility. Macdonald expressed admiration for Parameswaran by stating, "Pradeep bridges big-picture vision with hands-on execution  from ambitious goals like integrating every taxi worldwide onto Uber to detailed operational management."

Parameswaran joined Uber in 2017 as India Head of Central Operations and has moved up steadily to become President for India and South Asia, Regional General Manager of Asia Pacific in 2020, and Global Head of Business Development in 2023. His previous role was to lead Uber for Business, enterprise partnerships, and the nascent fleet program.

In his new role, Parameswaran will also be responsible for Uber's high-capacity vehicle programs, micro-mobility platforms, shuttle operations, and consumer vehicle business, an important area of focus as cities look to shift away from private car ownership.

An MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and an IIT Madras mechanical engineering graduate, Parameswaran is a past leader of DEN Networks (CEO), McKinsey & Company (partner), and started his professional journey at Hindustan Unilever. He is also an independent director on the board of FSN E-Commerce Ventures, Nykaa's parent entity.

He was behind Uber's global expansion, driving acquisitions like Australia's CarNextDoor and Hong Kong's HKTaxi. He also led electric mobility initiatives in India, including a tie-up with Tata Motors for deploying EVs and an investment of $20 million in Everest Fleet, Mumbai-based electric and CNG vehicle operator.

Uber India and South Asia continue to be managed by Prabhjeet Singh, reporting to Asia Pacific leadership. India continues to serve as a significant technology center for Uber, having more than 1,500 employees in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Parameswaran's promotion is one in a larger wave of Indian-origin executives emerging at Uber. In October 2024, Uber promoted Sachin Kansal and Praveen Naga to Chief Product Officer and Chief Technology Officer, respectively, after the departure of former CPO Sundeep Jain. Meanwhile, Uber's former head of delivery engineering, Anirban Kundu, departed to serve as CTO at Instacart.
