SiliconIndia's Startup of the Week: ZipDial

Revenue Model

ZipDial is completely toll-free to the end users, and services are paid for by the content creator, advertiser, or business running the ZipDial service.  Valerie says, “We have flipped the traditional business model on its head: users are no longer charged talk-time minutes or SMS fees to engage. ZipDial platform has introductory products even for the smallest of advertisers starting at Rs 1,000 (or USD $20) per month for which they can sign up online.”

ZipDial’s mobile engagement and analytics platform is used by:

1. Global FMCG brands: Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Cadbury and Colgate

2. Web businesses: MakeMyTrip, Yatra and SnapDeal

3. Banking and Financial services: Kotak Bank, ICICI

4. Social organizations: Greenpeace, Youth Congress Party and Amnesty International

ZipDial has received seed rounds of funding in April of 2011, led by Mumbai Angels, Blume Ventures, and the partners at AngelPrime, followed by investment in December 2012 by 500 Startups a US based VC fund and by Times Internet, India’s leading internet network.
