SIIC IIT-K Partners with US Centre to Boost Global Reach for Startups
  • Global Expansion Gateway: SIIC at IIT-Kanpur partners with NMexus Centre in New Mexico, USA, to help Indian startups expand into the US market through soft-landing, mentorship, and regulatory support.
  • NMexus Launch & Impact: Officially launched by New Mexico’s Governor, the NMexus Centre aims to host up to 40 firms annually, creating 1,500 jobs and generating over USD 400 million in five years.
  • First Indian Participants: Indian companies like Zonap Engineering, Alligator Automations, and DCirrus Inc. are among the first cohort, marking India's growing role in New Mexico’s innovation economy.

Empowering Indian companies with the tools, knowledge and networks to effectively extend operations in the US market, the Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC) at IIT-Kanpur has been identified as a partner of importance in the creation of NMexus, a one-of-a-kind global business accelerator and commercialisation centre located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The program was launched officially by New Mexico governor Michelle Lujan Grisham at the SelectUSA Investment Summit in Maryland, near Washington, DC, this week. It focuses mainly on luring foreign direct investment and helping international businesses from India, the Middle East, Europe and Asia build a strong foothold in the US market.

The announcement solidifies New Mexico's status as a science and technology center in the world, drawing foreign direct investment (FDI). With Indian companies entering New Mexico's innovation economy, India is the 15th foreign nation to make an investment in New Mexico, adding to the state's global reach.

As per reports, the NMexus Centre in Albuquerque's Mesa del Sol innovation area has opened its doors to its first group of companies, having a diverse range of firms from India and Oman. Zonap Engineering India, Alligator Automations, DCirrus Inc, Supreme Technology, American Grain Corporation, Oliver Merino LLC, and Ardic are the companies that have joined the program, a milestone in the development of the innovation ecosystem of the region.

The center is anticipated to host a maximum of 40 firms per year, creating around 1,500 direct employment opportunities and a total economic impact of more than USD 400 million within five years. "The NMexus Centre indicates to the world that New Mexico is open for business", said Governor Grisham.

SIIC at IIT-K had entered an MoU with NMexus Centre in April 2025 to facilitate Indian startups going into the US market. It will grant NMexus access to a carefully curated pipeline of high-quality, market-ready startups. In exchange, startups incubated within SIIC will gain access to NMexus' soft-landing facilities, mentoring, regulatory assistance, and North America-specialized business development services.

Professor-in-charge, SIIC, IIT-K, Prof Deepu Philip added, "This collaboration will enable our innovators to access global markets more easily and position Indian technology on the world map".

CEO, SIIC, Anurag Singh stated, "With NMexus, we're bridging Indian innovation and US opportunity. This partnership brings new opportunities for our startups the much-needed infrastructure and support to scale globally and sustainably".

SIIC at IIT-K is among the oldest and most vibrant incubators of India. As a deep-tech focussed incubator, SIIC enables a dynamic startup ecosystem through funding, mentorship, and strategic collaborations within India and across the world.
