PM Modi Unveils Skyroot's Vikram-I, India's First Private Orbital Rocket

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Skyroot Aerospace’s Infinity Campus in Hyderabad via video conference on Thursday, highlighting India’s growing role in private space innovation. The launch marks a milestone for the nation’s space sector and underscores the contribution of young innovators.
Addressing the event, PM Modi said, “Our youth power, with its innovation, risk-taking ability, and entrepreneurship, is reaching new heights”. He emphasized that India now has the third-largest startup ecosystem globally and that the private sector is playing an increasing role in shaping the country’s space ambitions.
Modi credited India’s progress in space not to wealth but to determination, praising ISRO for guiding the country’s space journey for decades. He also highlighted recent reforms, including a new space policy designed to integrate startups and private companies into India’s innovation ecosystem.
The Prime Minister unveiled Skyroot’s first orbital rocket, Vikram-I, capable of deploying satellites into orbit. This development is a significant step for India’s private aerospace sector, offering faster and cost-effective access to space.

Spread over 200,000 square feet, the Infinity Campus provides state-of-the-art facilities for designing, developing, integrating, and testing multiple launch vehicles. The facility is designed to support the production of one orbital rocket per month, enabling faster development cycles and fostering innovation in space technology.
Skyroot’s new campus reflects India’s ambition to empower its youth and private enterprises to reach new frontiers in space exploration, making the nation a key player in the global aerospace ecosystem.
