Piyush Goyal Rallies DeepTech Startups to Power Innovation and Global Expansion

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal recently conducted an interactive session with deeptech startups aimed at increasing opportunities for funding, infrastructure assistance, ease of regulations, and global market access.

Posting the update on social media platform X, Goyal stated, "Held a constructive interaction with deeptech startups to understand their experiences & insights and get their feedback."

The conversation focused on strategies to strengthen India's deeptech ecosystem and drive innovation through key sectors. Goyal observed that ideation reinforced the government's resolve to create a future-ready ecosystem for emerging technologies and startup entrepreneurs.

The engagement was concurrent with the 10th meeting of National Startup Advisory Council (NSAC), which Goyal presided over. During the session, he highlighted the pivot of innovation, research and development (R&D), and collaboration in remaking India's startup ecosystem. He added that collective collaboration among government, industry, and entrepreneurs will be essential to fostering a dynamic startup ecosystem and driving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The NSAC meeting convened prominent policymakers, industry captains, and startup entrepreneurs to discuss ways to enhance India's profile as a global deeptech and emerging technologies hub. The government's persistent efforts to empower entrepreneurs from Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns were also emphasized by Goyal to make innovation inclusive and far-reaching.

Established in January 2020, the NSAC is headed by the Minister of Commerce & Industry and comprises official and non-official members. It provides recommendations on key interventions to enable innovation, scale up startups, and establish a robust and sustainable startup ecosystem.

Up to October 31, 2024, DPIIT has recognized 159,157 startups, out of which 73,151 have at least one woman director, indicating the increasing role of women entrepreneurs. These startups, altogether, have created more than 16.6 lakh direct employment opportunities since 2016, a notable contribution to the country's employment opportunities.
