Peak XV Partners Announces Impressive 10-Fold Returns in Mamaearth's IPO
Peak XV Partners, previously known as Sequoia Capital India and Southeast Asia, is reported to have achieved an exceptional return of at least 10 times the investment in the oversubscribed initial public offering (IPO) of Mamaearth, a well-known direct-to-consumer (D2C) skincare brand. This outstanding success is a significant milestone for Peak XV Partners since its separation from Sequoia. Mamaearth is scheduled to make its debut on the stock market on November 10, with its shares being listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The IPO of this skincare brand has garnered considerable excitement and interest.
In a surprising turn of events, the investment company Mamaearth reported a loss of Rs 151 crore in the fiscal year 2023. Nonetheless, Honasa Consumer Pvt Ltd, the holding company of Mamaearth, is anticipated to raise a substantial sum of Rs 10,500 crore through its initial public offering (IPO), as indicated by reports. Peak XV Partners' accomplishments extend beyond their involvement with Mamaearth. The report indicates that the investment firm has also successfully divested its remaining shares in Zomato, effectively concluding a journey that began over a decade ago with the food delivery startup. This exit represents an impressive return of more than 10 times the initial investment for Peak XV.
Moreover, the report underscores Peak XV's remarkable return on its investment in the edtech startup K12 Techno Services. Approximately a decade ago, the firm initially supported K12 Techno Services and has since seen an impressive return that exceeds 12 times the initial investment. Although Peak XV Partners declined to provide comments on the report, these extraordinary returns underscore the firm's exceptional expertise. With a capital pool of $2.5 billion, Peak XV manages a substantially larger capital volume compared to any other venture capital firm focusing on India and Southeast Asia. Over the years, the fund has made over 400 investments, cultivating a portfolio that includes more than 50 unicorn companies. These recent accomplishments firmly establish Peak XV as a prominent player in the venture capital arena.
