NexWafe Appoints Dr. Davor Sutija as CEO

Fraunhofer ISE spin-off ‘NexWafe GmbH', which is an industrial technology startup, ropes in Dr. Davor Sutija as its CEO.  He will succeed Dr. Stefan Reber, who will continue with NexWafe as CTO and Managing Director. An industry veteran in silicon wafer production, Davor brings in extensive experience of leading several technology companies. NexWafe, which leverages the Kerfless Wafer Technology for the production of monocrystalline silicon wafers, expects to bolster its management team with the silicon wafer expert on-board.

Davor also boasts co-founding SiNor (now Norwegian Crystals), a solar company which was acquired by REC in 2004. He was also the SVP at FAST, an enterprise search company, and has also designated the role of CEO at Thin Film Electronics, printed electronics company.

“I am very pleased to announce Davor Sutija's appointment as CEO, as the company enters the commercial phase. His extensive management experience and proven leadership skills, as well as his strong commercial orientation and impressive track record of value creation will greatly benefit the company as we begin shipments to customers early next year,” said Peter Pauli, NexWafe's chairman.

Dr. Stefan says, “As NexWafe moves forward to commercial shipments, I am happy to welcome Davor on board. Davor will complement our team, focusing on helping us build a world-class technology product company.”

Founded in 2015 as a spin-off of Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, NexWafe focuses on the industrialization of technologies for the epitaxial production of silicon wafers for photovoltaics. Hedquartered in Freiburg, Germany, it operates a pilot production line for high quality monocrystalline wafers using the company’s proprietary EpiWafer process, wherein a crystalline silicon layer is deposited on a seed wafer and then detached.
