Namma Yatri Makes Delhi Debut, Targets 50,000 Drivers in 3 Months
Namma Yatri, the pen mobility auto-booking app, has launched its services in New Delhi with the aim of enhancing first and last-mile connectivity in coordination with metro services. As part of the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), Namma Yatri is owned by the fintech firm Juspay. The app, operating within ONDC, already designates rides to and from the Metro as special, providing an improved service experience for both drivers and customers.
"In the upcoming months, the app plans to deeply integrate with public transportation through the ONDC Network, offering a seamless multi-modal transportation experience to promote sustainability in Delhi", ONDC stated in an official release. Namma Yatri currently has 10,000 drivers in Delhi and aims to add an ambitious 50,000 more drivers within the next three months, according to ONDC. T Koshy, MD and CEO at ONDC, emphasized the shared vision with Namma Yatri to integrate auto-hailing services seamlessly on Delhi's roads, providing reliable and convenient transportation.
Amid reported divestment plans, Juspay, a leading fintech company in India, is contemplating registering Namma Yatri as a separate entity. The company is seeking separate investors for both growth and cost reduction and considering a shift to OpenStreetMaps to reduce expenses. In October, Juspay collaborated with the state government for the Yatri Sathi app in Kolkata. Shan MS, Chief Growth Officer at Juspay, expressed eagerness for collaboration, stating, "We anticipate close collaboration with the community, government, and public transport organizations to make Delhi's commute more efficient, inclusive, and reliable through empathy and technology".
