MapMyIndia sends legal notice to Ola Electric for 'Data Theft'

The parent company of MapMyIndia CE Info Systems, has issued a legal notice to Ola Electric for purportedly replicating the data of the former as the Bhavish Aggarwal-led company introduced its own mapping service in India.

In the notice, MapMyIndia asserted that Ola Electric violated the terms of the license agreement. In 2022, Ola Electric partnered with MapMyIndia to provide navigation services for its S1 Pro electric scooter.

According to, MapMyIndia, Ola was barred from mingling the licensed product with a similar competing product and engaging in reverse engineering or attempting to extract/copy the source code from any API of the licensed product or related software is strictly prohibited.

The navigation tech company claimed and clarified in their notice that,Ola maps cached, saved their data which is a violation of the licensing agreement signed in 2021.

The delhi based firm told that, they will initiate appropriate legal action, both civil as well as criminal, against Ola Electric.

The Bengaluru based firm Ola electric has launched Ola Maps which is an alternative application of Google Map. The company has also moved its activities to its proprietary mapping service by switching from Google Maps. According to Aggarwal, this move is projected to save his company 100 crore annually.

In response to Ola Maps' free services, Google significantly reduced the pricing of its Google Maps platform for developers in India by up to 70%. Additionally, Google announced a 90% discount for developers working with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).

MapMyIndia, which went public in December 2021, reported a 35% increase in net profit to 38.2 crore for the last quarter of FY24, with operating revenue reaching 106 crore. Ola Is all set for the stock market debut on August 2.
