JSS Science and Technology University (JSS STU) in Mysuru has received formal recognition as a Technology Business Incubator (TBI) 2.0 under the Karnataka Startup Policy 2022-2027. The state government will provide financial support of Rs 10 crore over five years to strengthen startup and innovation activities at the university.

The recognition is part of Karnataka’s TBI 2.0 program, which aims to spread innovation beyond Bengaluru and encourage research-based entrepreneurship across the state. The announcement was made during the 40th anniversary celebrations of SJCE–Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park (SJCE-STEP) at the JSS STU campus.

Officials also announced the launch of the JSS Innovation & Research Park, a large-scale facility spread across more than two lakh square feet. The new center will support research and development, product design, testing, validation, and commercialization for startups and early-stage entrepreneurs. The project is expected to be completed by 2028.

SJCE-STEP, established in 1985 with support from the Government of India and JSS Mahavidyapeetha, is one of India’s oldest technology business incubators. Over the past four decades, it has played a key role in building Mysuru into a major innovation hub outside Bengaluru. The Ruby Jubilee celebrations will continue until early 2026, with several national-level initiatives planned.

University leaders said the new TBI 2.0 will focus on emerging and deep-tech sectors such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital twin technologies, language technologies, computer vision, and semiconductors. These areas align with national priorities and industry demand.

Over 40 years, SJCE-STEP has supported more than 500 startups, helped create over 10,000 jobs, and conducted more than 1,000 training programs. It has also managed multiple seed funds, grants, and innovation facilities, strengthening the startup ecosystem in Karnataka.
