Innovators of Kashmir University wins 'Early Stage Promising Startup Award - 2024'

The two KU (University of Kashmir) innovators, Jehangir Hameed Lone and Sajid Noor, were announced as the winners of the esteemed "Early Stage Promising Startup Award" at the "Jammu and Kashmir Startup Conclave 2024," which took place at the Modern Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Jammu.

Their innovative product, the "Automatic Multimenu Starch-Free Device," stood out among 50 early-stage entrepreneurs for its practical use and health-centric innovation, according to a statement released here.

By eliminating excess starch during cooking, the award-winning gadget, which can be operated remotely through a mobile application, attempts to avoid ailments including diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disorders. According to the statement, it is a ground-breaking solution for homes, hospitals, hostels, and restaurants because of its multipurpose, user-friendly design.

Speaking to this, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofar Khan, highlights “Growing spirit of innovation at the institution and the transformative potential of young minds in driving societal progress”.

“KU nurtures innovation and entrepreneurial talent and Jehangir and Sajid have demonstrated exceptional creativity and determination in addressing real-world challenges, setting an inspiring example for the student community,” he added.

She further said that their innovative device showcases how technology can be harnessed to promote health and well-being.

Further he added, “The award reflects the cutting-edge research and entrepreneurial ecosystem we are promoting across our campuses”.

Talking on the achievement, Prof M Tariq Banday, Head, Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Technology states, “They have set a benchmark for other aspiring innovators, positioning the institution as a leader in promoting impactful ideas in the startup ecosystem of Jammu and Kashmir.”
