IIT-Madras and Indian Air Force Join Hands for Homegrown Defence Technology
  • IIT-Madras and Indian Air Force’s SDI join hands to develop indigenous airborne communication systems.
  • Project targets secure networking, encryption, and homegrown defence technology.
  • Strengthens Atmanirbhar Bharat, reduces import dependence, and boosts India’s defence capabilities.
The Indian Air Force’s Software Development Institute (SDI) has partnered with IIT-Madras to develop a digital communication system for airborne military applications. The collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Monday, marking a significant step towards India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision and self-reliant defence technology.
The partnership brings together Air Vice Marshal R Guruhari of SDI, Prof V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, and Dr M J Shankar Raman, CEO of Pravartak Technologies Foundation. The team will focus on designing advanced algorithms for secure networking and encryption, crucial for protecting data in dynamic, networked warfare environments.
This initiative will utilize SDI’s expertise in military software and IIT-Madras’ cutting-edge research facilities to create robust, indigenous solutions. By reducing reliance on imported technology, the project strengthens India’s strategic capabilities and enhances the domestic defence industrial base.
The collaboration highlights the growing synergy between academia and defence, showing how research institutions can play a pivotal role in advancing national security technology. With this joint effort, India takes another step forward in building homegrown, secure, and reliable defence systems.
