Gaming Startup LightFury launches their first Gaming Studio in Bengaluru

A renowned gaming company LightFury which was co-founded by former Unacademy Partner and Chief marketing officer Karan Shroff, launched their first studio in Bengaluru on July 9. The announcement of launching comes after the startup raised $8.5 million in a seed funding round in April 2024, led by Blume Ventures.

The funding round was led by Japanese mobile entertainment firm Mixi, Gemba Capital, and angel investors such as Cred founder Kunal Shah and Unacademy co-founder Gaurav Munjal.

Karan Shroff left Unacademy in September 2022, an joined hands with former Unacademy and Tencent Games executive Tina Balachandran and gaming industry veteran Anurag Banerjee and launched LightFury Games in January 2024.

The gaming startup LightFury aims to develop high-quality AAA titles, initially focusing on mobile games and later expanding to consoles. This newly constructed 60 seater India studio which is located near Bengaluru International Airport, is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment essential for developing these games. This will essentially be heaven for the gaming enthusiasts and enrich India’s gaming market.

Karan Shroff, CEO of LightFury Games said, "The opening of our state-of-the-art studio in Bangalore marks our first step toward reinventing gaming experiences in India and developing world-class AAA titles from this region."

LightFury Games has strengthened its leadership team by appointing experienced professionals. Justin Farren, a gaming industry veteran with over 20 years of experience, has been appointed as Chief Creative Officer for the studio in India. Chong-U Lim, with a PhD in Computer Science and AI from MIT, joins as Chief Technology Officer and will lead the UK studio. Daniel Hall having 12 years of experience in the gaming industry has been appointed Vice President of Engineering and will split his time between the UK and India.

Commenting on India’s evolving gaming market, the group's Chief Product and Technology Officer, Anurag Banerjee opined, "The Indian gaming industry has great potential but has yet to reach its full prominence. LightFury Games is here to change that."
