Fisheries Department set to host the Fisheries Startup Conclave 2.0 in Hyderabad

By gathering important stakeholders for talks on new prospects, the Fisheries Startup Conclave 2.0 seeks to advance entrepreneurship and innovation in the fishing industry. Innovations in fisheries technology, the Fisheries Startup Grand Challenge 2.0, and the release of the NFDP Mobile App will all be highlighted at the event.

On March 8, 2025, in Hyderabad, Telangana, the Department of Fisheries, which is a part of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying (MoFAH&D), will conduct the Fisheries Startup Conclave 2.0. Along with government representatives, fisheries startups, and entrepreneurs, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Minister of State George Kurian, and Minister of State Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel will be present at the event. By offering a forum for conversations on new prospects, e-commerce integration, and technological developments in fisheries and aquaculture, this conclave seeks to promote innovation and expansion in the fishing industry.

The National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP) Mobile App launch, which aims to simplify access to materials and services connected to fisheries, will be a significant event highlight. The introduction of the Fisheries Startup Grand Challenge 2.0 will further demonstrate the government's commitment to encouraging entrepreneurship in this field.

Nearly three crore people in India depend on the fisheries and aquaculture industry for their lives, making it a significant employer. The Blue Revolution Scheme, Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), and PM Matasya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY) are among the programs in which the government has invested 38,572 crore since 2015.

These efforts have fueled the emergence of over 300 fisheries startups, leveraging cutting-edge technologies like blockchain, IoT, and AI to enhance productivity, ensure traceability, and improve value chain efficiencies.

To boost innovation, the Department of Fisheries has established incubation centers, such as the LINAC-NCDC Fisheries Business Incubation Centre (LIFIC) in Gurugram and the Business Incubation Centre for Fisheries and Aquaculture in Guwahati Biotech Park, Assam. Additionally, institutions like MANAGE Hyderabad, ICAR-CIFE Mumbai, and ICAR-CIFT Kochi have been designated as incubation hubs to support startups, cooperatives, and self-help groups.
