Finance minister slams 'Biased Budget' allegations by oppositions
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman referred to the Opposition’s claims that the FY25 Budget “ignored” all states except Andhra Pradesh and Bihar as “outrageous.”
A day after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed that the Budget had neglected her state, she said that the West Bengal government had failed to put the plans from the Centre into action.
The day started with the opposition INDIA bloc MPs fighting inside the Parliament premises the supposed oppression-party governed states in the Union Budget, with Head of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, it is an “attack on the sancity of India’s government construction to say the Financial plan”.
Sonia Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and other opposition leaders joined the MPs who were protesting with placards that read, “We want India Budget not NDA Budget” and “NDA betrays India in Budget.”
The Congress has additionally concluded that its central pastors will blacklist the NITI Aayog meeting planned for July 27, as would the CMs of a portion of its union accomplices, to fight the Spending plan “disregarding” Resistance governed states. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his Karnataka counterpart Siddaramaiah have said they won’t go to the gathering on July 27.
In response to the “discriminatory” budget, INDIA bloc MPs staged brief walkouts in both Houses as the proceedings began. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar rejected notices under Rule 267 requesting the suspension of the listed agenda to address the issue prior to the opposition walkout in the Rajya Sabha.
According to Sitharaman, she did not mention several states in either the February Interim Budget or the Tuesday full Budget, but that does not mean that the states were not benefiting from government programs.
She said the example of Maharashtra, which she said was not mentioned in either Union Budget, did not stop the Union Cabinet from approving the Rs 76,000 crore Vadhavan port project in Dahanu last month.
“Did Maharashtra get ignored because I did not mention the name of Maharashtra? (An amount of) Rs 76,000 crore has been announced for that project,” Sitharaman claimed.
“This is a deliberate attempt of the Opposition parties, led by the Congress, to give an impression to people that ‘oh, nothing has been given to our states, it has only been given to two states’,” the FM said. “I would challenge the Congress party for all the budget speeches they have delivered, that in each of the budget speeches, have they named every state of the country. This is an outrageous allegation”, which is “not acceptable”, she added.
