E-Commerce Platform Flipkart Partners with Adani Group to set up Logistics & Data centers

One of India's leading digital commerce entity Flipkart has entered into a partnership with industrial conglomerate Adani Group  to create logistic and data centers with the promise of creating thousands of new jobs.

Adani is a diversified organisation in India with combined revenue of $13 billion comprising 6 publicly traded companies. The organisation has created a world-class transport and utility infrastructure portfolio that has a pan-India presence.

According to a statement from the e-commerce firm, Adani Logistics Limited, a subsidiary of the Group, will build a 534,000 sq. ft. fulfillment center in its upcoming logistics hub in Mumbai that will be leased to Flipkart to meet the rising demand for e-commerce in Western India and help market access for thousands of sellers and MSMEs in the area.

The building is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2022, with the ability to store 10 million units of sellers' inventory at any given time. Over 2,500 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs are expected to be created.

As a part of this partnership, Flipkart will also build its third data center at AdaniConneX, a Chennai-based facility, as part of its private cloud deployments in the region.

The data center has been built to meet the highest standards in terms of reliability, protection, and sustainability, leveraging the Adani Group's ability as the country's largest solar player to generate and source green power.

Flipkart has enabled millions of consumers, sellers, merchants, and small businesses to be part of India's e-commerce revolution. The entity claims to have a registered customer base of over 100 million, offering over 80 million products across 80+ categories.

“The Adani Group is unmatched in the way it has gone about building infrastructure across India. What it brought to us was a unique combination of logistics, real estate, green energy, and data center infrastructure capabilities…. These investments will help us strengthen our presence and capabilities in India to support MSMEs and sellers while also accelerating job creation and growth,” says, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO, Flipkart.

Karan Adani, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) commented, “This broad-ranging partnership across our logistics and data center businesses is a unique business model, and we see this as a great opportunity to serve Flipkart’s physical as well as digital infrastructure needs…. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership as we focus on learning from each other as well as leveraging our mutual strengths to prioritise consumers and development of India’s MSME ecosystem.”
